A common mode inductor is a special type of inductive device which is mainly used to suppress or eliminate common mode interference in signals. In communication systems, data transmission, power electronics and other fields, due to the presence of electromagnetic interference, signals are often affected by common mode interference, resulting in signal quality degradation or transmission failure. The use of common mode inductors can effectively reduce or eliminate common mode interference and improve signal reliability and stability.

Common mode interference refers to the electromagnetic coupling between the signal line and the ground line during signal transmission, resulting in the same voltage fluctuation on the ground line as on the signal line, thus affecting the transmission and reception of the signal. Common mode interference includes different kinds of interference introduced by power lines, signal lines and ground lines, such as electromagnetic radiation interference, power fluctuation interference and AC power interference. Common mode inductors, through their special structure and material selection, can form a high impedance path in the circuit so that the common mode interference signal flows through this path, thus reducing or eliminating the interference to the signal.

Common mode inductors generally use a double-winding structure, where one winding is connected to the signal line and the other winding is connected to the ground line. The two windings are magnetically coupled to achieve the function of a common mode inductor. Common mode inductors are characterised by a high inductance value in common mode and a low inductance value in differential mode. This is because the common mode signal is a voltage difference between the signal line and ground, so it generates the same magnetic field across both windings of the common mode inductor, thus creating a high impedance path for the common mode interference signal to flow through. Whereas a differential mode signal is the difference in voltage difference between the signal line and the ground line, so it generates opposite magnetic fields on the two windings of the common mode inductor, thus forming a low impedance path that will not be affected by the common mode inductor.

The parameters of common mode inductors are mainly inductance value, current capacity and frequency response. Inductance value refers to the inductance size of the common mode inductor in the common mode mode, current capacity refers to the **current that the common mode inductor can withstand, and frequency response refers to the change of inductance value of the common mode inductor at different frequencies. The selection and matching of these parameters should be determined according to the specific application requirements to ensure that the common mode inductor can effectively suppress common mode interference.

In practice, common mode inductors are often used in combination with other interference suppression devices such as filter capacitors and magnetic rings to achieve better interference suppression. The use of common mode inductors can improve the anti-interference ability of the system, enhance the reliability and stability of the signal, is one of the important indispensable devices in the field of modern electronic technology.
